What are the world’s most beautiful drives?

Italy's Amalfi coast.

There is no shortage of contenders in this category, as there are countless jaw-droppingly beautiful drives in the world. But the website GotSaga recently took a shot at coming up with a list of some of the world’s most beautiful roads.  I emphasize “some,” since five of their six choices are in the U.S. and Canada. But, while this is by no means a comprehensive list, there are some great drives included and it’s a nice way to get a conversation started. Here are some of their selections:

The Road to Hana, Hawaii – The Road to Hana is one of the most beautiful drives in the world. It follows the northeast coastline through lush rainforest…At the end of the Hana Highway …  is the famous ‘Ohe’o Gulch, also known as the “Seven Sacred Pools”. This series of waterfalls and pools is located inside the Haleakala National Park.

The Amalfi Coast, Italy – The Amalfi Coast is a stunning beauty with its steep sloped lemon tree gardens and coloured terrace houses and stunning views and azure sea. It is south east of Naples starting from Sorrento stretching almost to Salerno. Along the coast line you will find places like Amalfi, Ravello etc., each of them stunning beauties with their own flair.

Big Sur, California – Big Sur, on the Central Coast of California, contains vast wildernesses and breathtaking views as it stretches 90 miles along the rugged Pacific Ocean in the Central Coast region of California. It is approximately 150 miles south of San Francisco and 300 miles north of Los Angeles.

See their other selections here, or choices from a similar list done last year by National Geographic Traveler. You can also chime in with your own favorites. What would you select as one of the world’s most beautiful drives?
